The AC50 Speed Polars app is a performance and training tool designed for Vsk5 sailors who want to improve their manual trim mode skills. It is not a strict guide, but rather a dynamic system that allows players to track, compare, and refine their performance over time. By providing an auto trim mode baseline generated from in-game auto trim mode data, the auto trim baseline serves as a starting point (template) for training when using manual trim mode. More about manual trim mode here.
Users can download the AC50 Speed Polars CSV File, edit it with their own data they record while playing the game, and upload it back to the app to visualize their manual trim mode performance trends as compared to the auto trim baseline data to discover areas for improvement.
By systematically recording speeds while sailing the AC50 in manual trim mode, players can create their own custom performance database for the AC50, track trends, and identify critical wind speeds (TWS) and wind angles (TWA) where they need to focus their training.
This app is an invaluable tactical tool, offering a unique approach to competitive virtual sailing and performance optimization.
✅ Auto Trim Baseline Polars:
The auto trim baseline polars are hardcoded into the display, but the app also supplies a downloadable AC50 Speed Polars CSV File to be used as a template. The polars were generated by in-game data and mathematical interpolation.
Both the displayed baseline polars as well as the CSV file acts as performance benchmarks for comparison.
✅ Manual Trim Speed Recording & Editing:
Users can download the AC50 Speed Polars CSV file, which serves as a template.
Players can sail in the game, record their speeds at different TWS (True Wind Speed) and TWA (True Wind Angle), and input their data into the file.
The file can be updated and uploaded continuously with new performance data over time. The newly edited CSV file contains all the historical data contained in a single file and acts as a database.
✅ Interactive Data Visualization:
The app graphs Auto Trim vs. Manual Trim polars using a scatter plot.
X-Axis: Boat Speed (knots)
Y-Axis: True Wind Angle (TWA)
Tooltips: Show TWS, TWA, and Boat Speed for precise performance analysis.
✅ Performance Tracking & Trend Analysis:
Over time, users can see patterns in their performance.
Players can identify which wind speeds and angles need more focus and practice.
✅ CSV File Editor for Continuous Updates:
Users can easily modify the AC50 Speed Polars CSV File by updating their own polar data.
The app allows for unlimited data entries, meaning the dataset can evolve over time. Simply add as many additional rows to the CSV files as needed or completely edit the existing rows.
Players can add their own custom wind speeds and angles for further testing and experimentation.
✅ Zoom & Pan Features for Detailed Analysis:
The graph includes zoom and pan functionality, so users can closely examine specific performance points.
This makes it easy to compare similar conditions and determine whether improvements are occurring.
✅ Web-Based Performance Tracking System:
Players can keep all their training data in one place and track their progress over multiple sessions.
This system is perfect for serious competitors who want to maximize their efficiency in virtual racing.
How to Use the App
Click on the “Download Speed Polars CSV Template” link.
This file serves as both the baseline polar data and the AC50 Speed Polars template.
Step 2: Record Your Manual Trim Speeds
Open the game and sail the AC50 in different wind conditions and at different true wind angles.
Take note of your boat speeds at specific TWS (True Wind Speed) and TWA (True Wind Angle) values.
If needed, add new TWS and TWA values beyond what is in the original file.
Open the CSV file using the AC50 Speed Polars CSV File Editor or use a text editor.
Update the boat speed (BS) values for each corresponding TWS and TWA based on your sailing sessions.
Save the updated file.
Click the “Upload CSV” button.
Select your updated AC50 Speed Polars CSV File.
The app will visualize the new data alongside the auto trim baseline data.
Step 5: Analyze and Improve
Compare your performance against the auto trim baseline.
Identify patterns and weak points in your performance.
Use the data to focus on specific TWS and TWA conditions where improvement is needed.
Continue updating the CSV file after each virtual sailing session to track progress.

VSK Revolution Speed Polars - Voice to CSV Data Recorder
The Voice to CSV Data Recorder simplifies collecting polar data by automatically formatting and saving your spoken values into a CSV file, ready for upload to Speed Polars apps—no templates needed. The app features a real-time data preview chart and an editable table for quick corrections.
How to Use
Open Vsk5 in windowed mode or on a second monitor for easy access.
Start a race and monitor TWS (True Wind Speed), TWA (True Wind Angle), and BS (Boat Speed) from your instrument panel.
Click “Start Dictation” and clearly say the values in order: TWS, TWA, BS.
After the third value, the app records the data, updates the live preview, and adds it to the CSV table.
If needed, edit values directly in the table; all changes will update in the preview and final CSV file.
Best Practice: Create a race with no wind shifts, and minimal wave height for steadier, more accurate polar readings and easier data collection.
Introduction
The Voice to CSV Data Recorder is a tool designed to streamline the collection of polar data from Virtual Skipper 5 (Vsk5). With built-in voice recognition, the app eliminates the need for manual data entry, allowing you to focus on sailing while automatically generating a correctly formatted CSV file.
Key Features
No Templates Needed – The app automatically formats data into a CSV file, ready for use with Speed Polars apps.
Live Data Preview – A real-time chart updates as data is collected, showing trends instantly.
Editable Table – Easily correct mistakes within the app before saving the final CSV.
Simple Operation – Just dictate values, and the app does the rest.
1. Setup
Open Vsk5 in windowed mode or on a second monitor so you can access both the game and the recorder.
Ensure you have a race environment with steady wind conditions for the most accurate data.
2. Start Recording
Monitor your instrument panel for TWS (True Wind Speed), TWA (True Wind Angle), and BS (Boat Speed).
Click “Start Dictation” and clearly say the three values in order:
TWS (e.g., “12.5”)
TWA (e.g., “135”)
BS (e.g., “8.2”)
After speaking the third value, the app will automatically record the data and display it in the CSV preview and table.
3. Reviewing & Editing Data
The table allows you to review and edit any incorrectly recognized values.
Changes made in the table are automatically reflected in the CSV preview and the downloadable file.
4. Saving & Using the CSV File
Once you’ve collected all necessary data, simply download the CSV file.
The file is formatted and ready for direct upload into Speed Polars apps.
Use Steady Conditions – Set up a race with no wind shifts and minimal waves for better TWS readings.
Speak Clearly – Ensure background noise is minimal for accurate dictation.
Verify Before Saving – Use the editable table to fix any errors before downloading the CSV.
With this simple process, you can efficiently collect and format polar data without needing spreadsheets or manual entry.
